
Parks and Recreation Leader I - $18.00/hour
The City of Artesia’s Parks & Recreation Department is seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and energetic Recreation Leaders.
Recreation Leaders will engage children and teens through games and a variety of fun activities in a safe environment. They will also assist in planning and implementing program activities. Leaders will serve as positive role models every day and have the chance to make a difference!
This position receives no benefits and may work no more than 980 hours in a twelve-month period. Actual work hours and schedule vary according to program, participant, and City needs. Work hours will include weekends, holidays, and evening assignments. The current vacancies are GRANT-FUNDED. Employment term is expected to last a maximum of 15 months from the selected candidate's start date.
Parks and Recreation Leader I - will have the ability to follow oral and written instructions; knowledge of theories, rules, and regulations of sports, games, arts and crafts; ability to maintain effective working relationships with children, teens and/or adults, and the general public; ability to perform various tasks for extended periods of time requiring physical strength, dexterity, and endurance including standing, walking, running, crawling, bending, lifting and climbing; ability to lift 40 pounds and push/pull 50 pounds and get from location to location during the course of doing business.
Examples of Essential Job DutiesThe
Parks and Recreation Leader I, under general supervision, must be able to work assigned schedules that include weekdays, weekends, evenings and/or holidays and:
- Assist with organization of frontline staff, sports activities, arts and crafts, games, and play activities for youth and/or adults.
- Assist in the supervision of sports leagues, playgrounds, community centers, meeting rooms, park areas, and ensure the safety of participants through the proper use of equipment and the enforcement of rules and regulations.
- Set up/ take down tables, chairs, and equipment for classes, programs, sports activities, and special events.
- Complete written reports including facility checks, attendance reports, and incident and accident reports.
- Complete basic clerical tasks such as filing and data entry.
- Monitor the operation and public activity during hours of operation.
- Perform janitorial and maintenance duties including but not limited to graffiti removal, field preparation, trash collection, watering, raking and pulling weeds.
- Serve as a front line contact for enforcement of City policies and codes in public facilities.
- Maintain security of facilities per City standards.
- Open and close City facilities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Parks and Recreation Leader IEducation: Graduation from High School or GED equivalent.
Experience: One (1) year work experience demonstrating responsibility and preferably in the field of recreation or customer service at time of application.
All positions have the following requirements:- A valid Class C California driver's license and acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment;
- Work in inclement weather;
- Attain a valid CPR/First Aid Safety/AED certification within six months of employment;
- Be at least 18 years of age or older at time of application;
- Have consistent availability during weekdays, weekends and holidays;
- Have the ability to work flexible hours, including holidays, evenings and weekends.
