General Purpose
Under the general supervision, performs officiating responsibilities at sports events for the Parks and Recreation Division. Responsible for refereeing events for all levels of competition.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Officiates at sporting events, games, or competitions to maintain standards of play and to ensure that game rules are observed.
- Inspects sporting equipment and examine participants in order to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.
- Keeps track of elapsed time during game segments by starting and stopping play when necessary.
- Communicates effectively with program participants, parents, spectators, volunteers, and other staff.
- Confers with other sports officials, coaches, participants, and other staff in order to provide information, coordinate activities, and discuss problems.
- Teaches and explain rules and regulations governing each specific sport.
- Provides oversight and coordination with officials for youth sports league play.
- Performs pre-game duties to ensure facilities are ready and safe for play.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum & Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of sports is preferred.
- Ability to work with community members of all ages- adults, children/youth, and volunteers.
- Must be able to project enthusiasm to staff and program participants.
- Ability to work under occasional stressful conditions and to work irregular hours. Ability to work independently.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and supervisory skills. Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Proven team player.
- Ability to interpret, adopt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent OR still attending High School AND an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirement
- Must be at least 15 years of age
