An employee in this classification in the Department of Public Works is responsible, under the general direction of the Director, the Assistant Director, and the Superintendent of Public Works, for planning, organizing, and implementing the programs, policies, and practices of the Building Maintenance Section of the Department. The Building Maintenance Manager oversees supervisors who are responsible for services including (but not limited to): electrical; lock and hardware; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; plumbing issues and services; roof repairs; carpentry; office remodeling; custodial work; painting; contractual services oversight; and other building maintenance services. This employee prepares, implements, reviews, and revises work plans to be responsive to the ongoing facility needs. This person will provide information for, and help develop capital improvement plans; assist in monitoring expenditures; and participate in the development of the annual budget; prepare and implement budget adjustments; ensure that staff perform duties and responsibilities in a safe and prudent manner which does not expose them to unnecessary harm or risk of an on-the-job injury; reports and recommends work on special projects for the Director, Assistant Director, and Superintendent of Public Works; and performs related duties as assigned.
By the closing date of this announcement, an applicant must:
Be a citizen of the United States or resident alien with the right to work in the United States; and
Have a high school diploma or valid equivalency certificate; and
Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license; and
Have or be eligible for a mechanic contractor license from the State of Michigan within one year of hiring; and
Have experience supervising a minimum staffing level of ten individuals across the three disciplines of HVAC, electrical, or plumbing; and
Have one of the following:
An associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technical program, energy management, building operations, and maintenance or a closely related field; or
A minimum of five years of full-time paid professional, administrative, and managerial experience overseeing the maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and utility systems related to buildings and recreational facilities; or
A State of Michigan certification in Journeyman or Master level experience in a dual combination of Plumbing, Electrical, or HVAC (must have two of three)
