Responsibilities - What you’ll do
- Directs a recreation program of limited scope or assists in organizing/conducting/overseeing a variety of indoor/outdoor activities, games, and sports in a large and comprehensive recreation program; provides individual and group instruction in the fundamentals and rules of various activities
- Schedules facilities for movies/group activities/special seasonal programs/competitive events; assists in or directs the planning/preparation for these activities; organizes/coordinates athletic events/shows/other outside activities; issues recreation equipment; maintains records of its issuance; inspects the condition of equipment when returned
- Assumes responsibility for the care and maintenance of indoor/outdoor recreation facilities; participates in the selection and requisition of recreation equipment
- May supervise staff assigned to conduct and/or oversee recreation program activities; confers with staff members/recreation director/other supervisor regarding special, disciplinary, or related problems; assists less-experienced workers in handling such problems; observes/evaluates the behavior and reaction of participants to activities and recommends continuation or changes as appropriate
- Receives general administrative direction; work is reviewed through observations; performs other related work as assigned
Qualifications - All you need for success
Minimum Qualifications:
One or more years of experience as a Recreation Officer I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System OR
Six or more years of experience, excluding volunteer experience, in the field of group recreation or physical education which included responsibility for organizing, implementing, scheduling, and/or overseeing recreation activities
(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of three years of the required experience, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year – a minimum of three years of experience is required)

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:
- A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
- A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.
- A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.
The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
