- ABOUT THE POSITION:** Spokane Valley is seeking a highly qualified and
enthusiastic employee to serve our City as a full-time Recreation
Assistant/Event Support Limited Term, in our Parks and Recreation
department. The position will be housed at CenterPlace Regional Event
Center. CenterPlace is a 54,000 sq. ft. facility that has a variety of
meeting and conference facilities. This facility is used for regional
conferences, meetings, banquets, weddings, fundraisers, events,
performances, senior activities and more. CenterPlace has diverse
facility rooms, layouts and outdoor spaces. The ideal candidate will
have exceptional professional skills, a positive work attitude and a
strong desire to provide superior service to both internal and external
customers. This is a non-represented position that is anticipated to be
limited term through December 2027 with the possibility of renewal.
- SELECTED EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:** The CenterPlace Full-time Recreation
Assistant/Event Support staff operate as the day-of contact while events
are in progress. The Recreation Assistant/Event Support staff must be
able to work in a team environment, follow instruction, possess
knowledge of computers and audio/visual equipment, and be able to
communicate in a professional manner. The Recreation Assistant/Event
Support staff may perform other related duties as required. This is a
full-time limited term position requiring flexibility to work some night
and weekend shifts as needed.
Primary duties of this position include but are not limited to:
- Serve as a point of contact for event organizers during events
- Provide day-of support for events at CenterPlace Regional Event
Center
- Inspect, report and coordinate facility maintenance and janitorial
needs
- Order supplies and obtain quotes from vendors
- Assist with scheduling part-time Event Support staff
- Lead team in set-up and tear-down for events including tables,
chairs, linens and dishes
- Audio/Visual equipment setup and support
- Work through stressful situations utilizing strong communication
skills, leadership, and patience
- Prevent accidents and injuries and properly report and document all
incidents
- DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience**: Graduation
from high school or GED. Degree in Recreation or Hospitality with
Experience In Banquets, Convention Set-up Or Other Related Hospitality
experience is a plus. **Necessary** **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
Ability to perform tasks accurately and with little direction. A
Willingness to expend extra effort. Must be able to lift 20-40 lbs. Must
have ability to work effectively as a member of a team and effectively
communicate with staff and the public. Must show the ability to work
cooperatively with other staff and be able to express ideas clearly,
both verbally and in writing.
- SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:** Must possess a valid State driver\'s license
or can obtain one prior to employment. Successful completion of a
background check, including a criminal history check and pre-employment
physical is a requirement of employment at Spokane Valley. This is a
FLSA-nonexempt, at-will position in the Parks and Recreation Department
for a limited term through December 2027.
