Role Description
This is an on-site, full-time role for a Deputy Chief Medical Examiner based in Valhalla, NY. The Deputy Chief Medical Examiner will be responsible for supervising death investigations, conducting autopsies, and determining causes and manners of deaths. The role requires close collaboration with law enforcement, legal professionals, and public health organizations. Responsibilities will also include preparing detailed investigative reports, testifying in courts as an expert witness, and ensuring compliance with all relevant medical and legal standards.
Qualifications
- Medical expertise in forensic pathology, including extensive experience performing autopsies and determining cause and manner of death
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory aspects of death investigations, as well as experience collaborating with law enforcement and legal entities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing detailed reports and delivering expert testimony in court
- Administrative and supervisory skills, including overseeing staff and ensuring adherence to operating protocols
- Board certification or eligibility in Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology
- Valid medical license to practice in New York State, or eligibility to obtain one within a specified timeframe
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations
