The City of St. Cloud is accepting applications for an Engineering Technician. The Engineering Technician I and Engineering Technician II positions work as part of the Engineering Department team performing advanced technical civil engineering work focused on design, plan preparation, construction administration, construction inspection, topographic survey, and construction field staking of public infrastructure improvements. Work is performed independently under the general supervision of a professional engineer or an administrative superior. The position is full-time and allows the opportunity to work outside in the warmer months and inside during the colder months, and to be a part of the project team for public infrastructure projects of all sizes. The successful applicant may fill the position as either an Engineering Technician I or Engineering Technician II based on their prior experience and technical certifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Designing roadway and public utility improvements by establishing line and grade and developing cross-sections.
- Preparation of bidding documents for public roadway, trail and utility improvements.
- Gathering topographic field survey and developing surface terrain model of existing conditions.
- Providing field construction control and stakes as needed to provide contractor with information required to construct public improvements.
- Construction administration and on-site job inspection to ensure that all work is constructed in conformance with the plans and specifications and industry standards.
- Record keeping, pay voucher development and other documentation and reports associated with municipal state aid and/or federal aid funded projects.
- Complete preliminary designs, quantity takeoffs, cost estimates and prepare engineering reports and related studies to assist in the planning and implementation of public works capital improvement plan.
