About the Role: Handles incoming and outgoing mail and packages, supporting customers, making interdepartmental deliveries, and operating various office and mailing equipment. Performs basic office support activities, including filing, data and document entry, sorting, and scanning.- Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming mail and packages.
- Receives deliveries, following established procedures for notification and distribution.
- Processes outgoing mail, including calculating and applying correct postage using a postage machine and software. Generates shipping labels for outgoing packages and ensures accuracy of codes for billing purposes.
- Follows procedures for handling certified, regular, and package mail, including election-related and confidential documents.
- Operates a folding machine and other related equipment and stuffs envelopes for bulk mailings.
- Maintains the postage machine, including basic troubleshooting, supply maintenance, and monitoring transactions.
- Responds to customers with questions about postal regulations, mailing procedures, package tracking, and general office procedures.
- Maintains supplies, ensuring work area and mail stations are stocked with forms and materials as needed.
- Scans, copies, and files correspondence and records in numerical or alphabetical order.
- Performs miscellaneous basic office tasks, including document scanning, filing, photocopying, and other general recordkeeping as needed.
- May drive a designated mail route, picking up and delivering mail, interdepartmental correspondence, and packages to various county buildings.
- May fuel and maintain the cleanliness of the delivery vehicle.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- No previous experience required.
- Valid State of Iowa Driver’s License required.
