Coahoma County Sheriff's Office Transportation Officer
is responsible for **receiving, prioritizing, serving, and documenting service of civil legal documents**
- T**he position supports the courts by ensuring defendants, witnesses, and respondents are properly notified of legal action.
Duties
- Serve summonses, subpoenas, writs, court orders, eviction notices, and other civil documents in accordance with Mississippi law and court requirements.
- Ensure documents are served professionally, efficiently, and within required timeframe
- Find correct addresses or updated locations using maps, databases, investigative techniques, or information provided by the courts.
- Examine documents before service and verify correctness.
- Report discrepancies to the Civil Unit Supervisor before serving.
- Maintain detailed reports of attempts, successes, or returned papers when individuals cannot be located.
- Complete required court return documents and file affidavits of service with appropriate agencies.
- Operate Sheriff's Office vehicles safely and within agency policies.
- Perform basic maintenance checks (fluids, tires)
- Provide status updates to supervisors and courts.
- Testify in court when required to validate service.
- Assist sworn deputies with civilâ??related postings or evictions when needed.
- Attend training and meetings assigned by the Civil Process Unit.
