Description
The purpose of this position is to assist the development community and property owners in achieving compliance with current planning involving development regulations and processes involving application submittals for rezonings, subdivision plats, special use permits, and variance requests. Also assists with long range planning assignments involving comprehensive plan updates, special studies, and projects. Prepares and provides staff reports, special study results, text amendments, and other information to the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustments, and City Council. Reviews building permit applications for improvements checking compliance with the City’s Unified Development Ordinance and responding to complaints regarding private property violations and gaining voluntary compliance and/or working with Code Enforcement for assistance when necessary.
Examples of Duties
- Research, review, report and present rezoning cases, subdivision plat applications, special use permits, and zoning text amendments to Planning Commission and City Council and variance requests to the Board of Adjustment.
- Provide technical assistance to citizens, contractors, developers, others, department and City staff and management regarding the City’s Unified Development Ordinance, Comprehensive Plan and other plans and policies.
- Serve as liaison to the Zoning Board of Adjustments, Planning and Zoning Commission by preparing agenda items.
- Site review of development applications and other projects to evaluate site conditions, existing neighborhood uses, utility and infrastructure and related information.
- Provide technical assistance to citizens, contractors, developers City department staff and management.
- Prepare publications, notices and ordinances for development application requests.
- Provides input on department budget.
- Assist with amendment process to the City’s Comprehensive Plan and other special projects.
- Assist the Director to identify needed amendments and prepare written changes to the City ordinances, plans and policies.
- Receive and respond to citizen’s complaints regarding zoning violations performing field investigations.
- Coordinates violation status with Code Enforcement personnel.
- Review building permit applications for sheds, fences, pergolas, and other projects for compliance to the City’s Unified Development Ordinance.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationship with all other city departments, city officials, and others in the public and private sector, and the general public.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- American Institute of Certified Planners - Preferred
- Over 1 year experience
