JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director to join our team. As a Director, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of our organization's operations. This is a leadership role that requires strong strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, and the ability to drive results.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Provide overall executive level leadership, direction and oversight to the Public Works Department and employees
- Direct the department’s streets, street light utility, solid waste utility, meter reading, sewer line maintenance, waterline maintenance, cemetery, grounds maintenance, forestry, and fleet management operations
- Develop and implement short- and long-term capital improvement budgets; manage capital improvement projects
- Develop equipment, project, and supplier bid specifications
- Develop and oversee Public Works budgets; track and control expenditures
- Hire, train, supervise, assign, direct, evaluate, and discipline personnel
- Coordinate with other government agencies, including emergency services, as needed
SKILLS:
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Proven management and supervisory experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels
- Proficient in budgeting and financial management
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practice
- Proficient with computer and job-related software programs
- Knowledge of GIS software and its useful application
- Skill in drafting, communicating, and executing complex work plans
- Knowledge of Public Works management principles
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field preferred
- 3-5 years of related experience
- Preference for progressive experience or training in civil engineering, infrastructure planning, public works administrative leadership, utility company administrative leadership, construction management, or resource management.
- Possession of, or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicles or equipment operated.
