Recreation Assistant II - Community Center
$18.65 - $25.18/hour Depending on Qualifications - Full Time + Employer Paid Benefits Package (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Vacation Leave, Sick leave, Retirement)
SUMMARY: This recreation position is responsible for hands on execution; of recreational programs, after school programming, summer day camp, city-wide special events, facility monitoring, rule enforcement, maintaining control of participants and spectators, logging in officials, tabulation of results/attendance and assisting with facility rentals. Primary work location is at the Community Center, may occasionally work at other facilities as assigned. Position is required to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings and weekends.

- Demonstrate competent knowledge of all applicable policies, codes, ordinances, regulations and statutes.
- Demonstrate competent knowledge of all divisional Key Functions and their associated processes.
- Develops programs in compliance with the cost-recovery guidelines and other city policies.
- Coordinates the planning, organizing and implementing of programs including; recruiting sponsor(s), registering participants, organizing meetings, advertising events, ordering uniforms, scheduling teams and games, and attending events.
- Assists with setting up and tearing down required for special events, programs and rentals.
- Inspects, maintains, orders, and arranges for supplies and equipment as directed.
- Performs inventory control of all equipment for assigned programs and equipment used for general operation of the Community Center.
- Assists in the general operations of the Community Center and other Recreation Department facilities as assigned.
- Takes necessary corrective action to ensure that program goals, safety and sanitary standards are met.
- Collects, receipts and safeguards participation and rental fees.
- Maintains records of participants, facility and rental users/usage, activity correspondence and daily reports.
- Reports maintenance problems.
- Assists with the scheduling of the Community Center.
- Registers participants with appropriate insurance as applicable.
- Monitors assigned programs.
- Answers telephones and assist customers.
- Assists with administrative and other duties as assigned.
- Works cooperatively with other department staff to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
- Works cooperatively with other city departments to achieve city-wide goals and objectives.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervision of program assistants, volunteers, scorekeepers, coaches and officials required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: High School Diploma and two (2) years of work experience involving the field of recreation.
Licenses or Certifications: Valid Florida’s driver’s license, CPR certification, and First Aid certification desired.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, and practices of a variety of recreational and athletic programs.
- Skill in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Skill in using computers for data entry, word processing and/or accounting purposes
- Ability to supervise, communicate, and organize effectively.
- Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, technical, structural, compositional or identifiable characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
- Ability to communicate with people to convey or exchange professional information.
- Ability to read a variety of professional, technical and administrative documentation, directions, instructions, methods and procedures.
- Ability to produce reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech.
- Ability to learn and understand subject matter principles and techniques.
- Ability to make independent judgments in absence of supervision within the scope of respective job duties and tasks.
- Ability to acquire and expound on knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
- Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract, multiply and divide totals; determine percentages; and determine time and weight and interpret same as may be appropriate.
- Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
- Ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
- Ability to interact with people (staff, supervisors, general public and elected officials) beyond giving and receiving instructions to include tactfully mediating conflicts and achieving positive results.
- Ability to perform under maximum stress when confronted with short deadlines, heavy workloads, conflicting interests and high customer demand.
