McHenry County Emergency Management Agency is seeking a Resiliency Specialist to lead community resilience, hazard mitigation, continuity, and long-term recovery initiatives. This position will build partnerships across government, public safety, nonprofits, healthcare, schools, and the private sector; coordinate appropriate organizations to establish a Multi-Agency Resource Center following a disaster; support grant and recovery programs; and help turn plans into practical capabilities.
As part of a small, operational EMA team, the successful candidate will also support EOC activations, exercises, special events, volunteers, communications equipment, and field operations. Strong organizational, technical, communication, and relationship-building skills are essential.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- Candidates should have education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position. Relevant areas of study may include; emergency management, public administration, planning, community development, business continuity, nonprofit management, public safety, communications, or a closely related discipline.
- Equivalent combinations of education and relevant professional, military, volunteer, or public-sector experience should be considered.
- Experience in emergency management, disaster recovery, mitigation, continuity, community planning, grant administration, stakeholder engagement, project coordination, or comparable work is desirable. Local government experience, FEMA program knowledge, and experience coordinating volunteers or multidisciplinary partnerships are preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet applicable County driving requirements. Successful completion of required background and employment screening.
- Completion of required NIMS/Incident Command System and position-specific training within agency-established timelines. Availability for emergency recall and occasional evening, weekend, holiday, extended-hour, or overnight assignments.
