Public Information Officer, grade
G24, in the
Office of Administrative Services.
About The Position
T his is a senior-level and supervisory journalistic and media relations professional position, whereby the incumbent prepares and disseminates information regarding the agency outreach programs to the community. The incumbent identifies and oversees informational initiatives, lead engagment activies, develops strategies to address identified needs, and ensures project plan enactment through agency coordination. The incumbent is subject to extensive public contact and may be required to work evenings, weekends and special activities. Work is performed and evaluated in accordance with agency standards, rules, and regulations, under the general direction of the Associate Director .
About The Agency
The Office of Procurement was launched on July 1, 2024, and comprises three main divisions: the Office of Accountability, Business Services, and Office of Administrative Services. These divisions will house critical functions including Contract Compliance, Contract Administration & Procurement, and Supplier Development & Diversity, formerly managed under the Office of Central Services. The Office of Procurement will help foster transparency and efficiency in our procurement process every day while also providing a high impact means to promote equity. Through the new Office of Procurement, small, local, and minority-owned businesses are supported, creating new opportunities for our residents to work in and improve the community where they live.
Examples of Work
- Develops and implements outreach and marketing strategies to improve public awareness regarding the County's Local and Supplier Diversity Programs.
- Plans, designs, implements and manages workshops, seminars, and annual conferences.
- Markets and promotes the Division's Outreach Programs to the community through the different media outlets.
- Develops outreach materials and coordinates advertising strategies.
- Represents the Division in external meetings, conference, and outreach events.
- Assesses training needs for local, small and minority business in the community.
- Develops and implements strategies to create partnerships with local, small and minority business.
- Oversees matters concerning OOP relations; gathers and releases information to the media, and oversees the utilization of the news media's editorial and audio-visual techniques for achieving Departmental goals.
- Edits all materials to reflect professional standards for publications; ensures the visual layout of materials are well designed, providing maximum visual effect for minimum cost; ensures all materials are edited for release to the media, and will be written according to Departmental policy, along with suitable photographs for reproduction; writes and approves press releases on all matters involving public relations.
- disseminates relevant information to employees; participates in Employee Awards Program; produces and disseminates OOP's employee newsletter; provides training to the Department's personnel on the importance of effective public relations and report writing.
- Prepares annual strategic outreach plan and proposed budget; and
- Performs other tasks and duties assigned, which may not be specifically listed in the position description; however, are within the general occupational category and responsibility level associated with the employee's class of work
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field.
- Three (3) year of professional level experience in Public Relations, Journalism or a closely related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends, or during special activities/events.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a managerial role, preferably in Public Relations or a Communications
- 3 Public relations experience in County or local government
- Expertise in using social media as a tool in everyday work
- Strong copywriting skills for the development of written communications with the press and the community
- Graphic Design experience
