The Board of Athens County Commissioners is accepting applications until the position is filled for the position of Chief of Emergency Medical Services.
The Chief of Emergency Medical Services is a Department Head position and serves as the highest-level management position within the Athens County EMS chain of command, reporting directly to the Board of Athens County Commissioners. This position is responsible for directing and overseeing the Athens County EMS command structure.
Under limited supervision, the Chief performs supervisory, administrative, and technical work directing non-emergency operations, training, and special operations for the County. Responsibilities include supervising the delivery of medical care, ensuring emergency vehicles are properly equipped and maintained, verifying that necessary medical supplies are available, and ensuring each vehicle is staffed with qualified personnel. The Chief may also perform the duties of an Emergency Medical Technician–Paramedic as needed.
The successful candidate must exercise tact, courtesy, professionalism, and sound judgment when interacting with patients, the public, employees, and other agencies. This position requires considerable independent judgment while performing duties in accordance with established emergency medical procedures and protocols. The employee is exposed to the normal hazards associated with emergency medical services, including the risk of exposure to infectious diseases.
Other Requirements
- Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with employees, public officials, and the general public by telephone, email, and in person.
- Must be proficient in operating standard office equipment and technology, including a personal computer, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), calculator, copier, and other office equipment.
- May be required to respond to emergency situations involving walking, running, climbing, reaching, bending, lifting, pushing, and/or pulling up to 100 pounds or more.
- Must comply with all County and departmental policies and work rules, including attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and standards of professional conduct.
- Must obtain ICS 100, 200, 400, 700, and 800 (NIMS) certifications within eighteen (18) months of employment if not already completed.
Special Requirements
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Ohio driver's license.
- Possession and maintenance of a current Ohio Paramedic certification.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and driving record check.
- Ability to meet all County pre-employment requirements, including passing a drug screening.
- A reasonable amount of on-call duty and availability is expected as part of this position.
