General Statement of Duties
Manages and maintains multi-media storage-based systems and peripheral software at the Sheriff’s Office, including digital information systems, in-car camera systems, 911 emergency system and general computer support for PC hardware and applications; performs related work as required.
Classification Summary
An employee in this class manages and maintains information systems for the Sheriff’s Office. Duties include installing, maintaining and upgrading PC hardware, analyzing and diagnosing problems and developing effective solutions related to desktop operating systems, applications software and specialized systems related to the functions of the Sheriff’s office, including digital information systems, in-car camera systems, evidence handling, etc. Work is performed independently under the general direction of the Emergency Technical Services (ETS) Manager. The principle duties of this class are performed in a general office environment or outside in and around emergency service vehicles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (may vary with specific positions, this list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary):
- Serves as DIMS (Digital Information Management System) and Panasonic Arbitrator 360 In-Car Camera System Administrator;
- Serves as Cradlepoint System Administrator;
- Coordinates, plans, administers and maintains a Media Storage System/Network in support of the Sheriff’s Office E911 Center;
- Participates in the implementation and management of the multi-agency emergency services paging system;
- Troubleshoots and repairs hardware and/or software problems;
- Installs and establishes systems for users, including desktop PC’s, laptops, printers, scanners and related equipment;
- Installs, maintains and upgrades system hardware and software;
- Researches and recommends system upgrades and equipment;
- Assists in security and anti-virus systems operation and maintenance;
- Upgrades and amends system programs;
- Assists in creation of documentation;
- Monitors and maintains equipment and supply inventories;
- Provides technical training and support to Sheriff’s Office employees;
- Responds to user issues and questions, including answering telephones and e-mail questions;
- Provides general assistance to users in the operation and understanding of general office computer programs;
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County and Office policies, procedures and safety practices;
Other Duties And Responsibilities
- Requires rotating on call schedule with possible evening and weekend work in response to needs of system support;
- Performs other related duties as required;
- Work is conducted on site, in an office environment;
- Some local travel may be required for the purpose of off-site software and hardware installation and training;
Knowledge Of
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Multiple computer and server operating systems and networking procedures and protocols, including MS Server, Windows, Linux;
- Extensive knowledge of recent Microsoft Windows Server Platforms (2016,2019, 2022);
- Use of video, photographic and audio equipment both analog and digital;
- SAN (Storage area networks) and current methodology;
- Use of DVR surveillance equipment, cabling and current trends in technology;
- Information security best practices;
- Understanding of DNS, DHCP; Understanding of IP Schemes, VLANs, and wiring standards;
- Chain of custody protocols;
- Experience and strong knowledge of Virtual Environments; VMware experience is a plus;
- County, State, and Federal record retention directives; CJIS regulations;
- Computer security methods and procedures;
- Installation, operation and maintenance of desktop PC’s and laptops;
- PC hardware, software and specialized applications, including digital systems and LAN hardware/software;
- Diagnostic methods for computer hardware and software;
- Project planning, tracking and management;
- Familiarity with best practices for move/add/change procedures;
- Extensive organizational skills and an understanding of workflow practices;

Acceptable Experience And Training
- High School diploma or GED certificate required.
- Associates degree in Systems Administration, Computer Science, or Information Systems preferred; AND/OR
- (4) years’ experience in relevant IT field required
- Minimum (2) Years’ experience in a System Support role, supporting a medium to large scale business
- Experience in supporting a Windows environment, supporting servers, computers, users, and printers
- Microsoft On-Prem MCSE, CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, M365 Certified Administrator Expert, or equivalent formal training a plus
Special Qualifications
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License;
- Must successfully complete a full background investigation, including a polygraph examination.
