Role Description The Building, Zoning and Ordinance Administrator is a full-time, on-site position located in Daleville, AL. This role oversees the administration and enforcement of building codes, zoning regulations, and municipal ordinances, ensuring compliance with applicable local and state laws. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing permit applications and site plans, conducting inspections, and issuing approvals or corrective notices. The Administrator prepares reports for city leadership, maintains accurate records, and responds to inquiries from residents, businesses, contractors, and developers. The role also involves presenting information at public meetings, supporting long-range planning efforts, and collaborating with other city departments to promote safe, orderly, and sustainable development within Daleville.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, land use planning, and municipal ordinances, with the ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements.
- Experience reviewing construction plans, permit applications, and site layouts, including field inspections for compliance and safety.
- Strong communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with the public, contractors, developers, and elected officials.
- Proficiency in recordkeeping, report writing, and using office software and permitting or GIS systems to manage documentation and data.
- Ability to analyze issues, make sound decisions, and resolve conflicts while maintaining fairness, consistency, and adherence to policy.
- High level of organization and attention to detail, with the capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Relevant experience in code enforcement, urban planning, construction management, or a related field; prior municipal or government experience is beneficial.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in public administration, planning, construction management, engineering, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Professional certifications in building inspection, zoning administration, or code enforcement (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe) are a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to perform on-site inspections within the city limits.
