The Town of Yadkinville is looking for a professional to fill the role of Planning Director.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes, directs and develops short and long-range plans, services, and
programs, coordinates zoning ordinance and code enforcement.
- Leads visioning, long-range planning, and preparation of the Town’s comprehensive
development plans and land use ordinances.
- Serves as staff support to planning-related boards and commissions.
- Develops, reviews, plans, coordinates, performs, and supervises all functions of Town
planning, including proposing amendments to existing policies and Unified Development
Ordinance (UDO) and reviewing and processing rezoning and conditional zoning applications,
conditional use permits, variances, and appeals.
- Responsible for the coordination and/or preparation of various planning projects as may
be directed by the Town Manager.
- Performs maintenance, updating, and completion of required reports and correspondence
with regulatory agencies and others.
- Performs the inspection and approval of plans and all phases of private and public
construction and improvement work to assure construction is completed in compliance with the
zoning classification, plans, standards, specifications, special requirements, codes and
regulations; issues correction notices or approvals as required.
- Prepares planning reports, makes presentations, and prepare minutes for the Planning
Board, Board of Adjustment and Long-Range Planning Committee.
- Provides professional advice and information for the Board of Adjustment hearings,
Planning Board, Town Board, and Town Manager. Attends and provides staff assistance at
meetings as requested by the Town Manager, and as representative of the Manager, as needed.
- Provides written and graphic materials in addition to technical advice for development
plans, site plans, building, land use, zoning makers, and other related areas or policies to the
various boards, Town Board, Town Manager, department directors, and community meetings.
- Coordinates the site plan and development plan review and approval process in addition
to other departmental projects with developers, consultants, Town departments, and others.
- Serves as the primary economic development contact for the Town; works with Town
Manager, staff, and outside agencies as necessary.
- Provides information and responds to various questions from contractors, developers,
property owners, citizens, and staff regarding planning, zoning and code enforcement compliance
issues.
- Plans and implements information technology necessary for the work of the department,
including GIS systems; ensures maintenance and updating of the zoning and land use maps.
- Confers and provides input with Director of Public Services, Police Chief, and Town Clerk,
acting as representative of the Town Manager.
Education and Experience:
Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree in
planning or a related field, and experience in professional municipal and/or regional planning; or
any equivalent combination of education and experience to include subdivision & site plan review
and GIS mapping proficiency, and/or ordinance understanding and preparation proficiency.
Preference:
Master’s degree in planning or related field
Advanced experience in professional municipal and/or regional planning
Special Requirements:
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain AICP certification.
