The Banking and Financial Reporting Unit is seeking an Accounting Associate who will compile, analyze and reconcile records and financial accounting activities. The selected candidate must be able to perform independently professional accounting assignments following accounting rules and organizational procedures.
The Accounting Associate responsibilities include, and are not limited, to the following:
- Responding to member inquiries regarding electronic fund transfers (EFT); this entails researching and reviewing cases and validating information.
- Manage monthly bank reports and statements and verify transactions on bank website(s).
- Set up and process EFT requests.
- Finalize weekly and monthly transmissions and work with various transactions including check stops.
- Respond to external and internal inquiries by reviewing member profile case documents.
- Track, monitor and download reports.
- Work with pension verification letters and manage monthly outstanding exception reports.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including 6 credits in accounting; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and two years of satisfactory full-time bookkeeping experience; or
- A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. College education may be substituted for experience in "2" above on the basis that 15 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted for each year of required experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either 6 semester credits in accounting from an accredited college or 6 months of experience as described in "2" above.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as a Bookkeeper (40526) or at least four years of satisfactory full-time bookkeeping experience.
Preferred Skills
The ideal candidate will have: - A bachelors degree in Accounting - At least one year of satisfactory full-time experience in the accounting field - Knowledge of GAAP and basic banking operations - Strong Microsoft Office knowledge and application, specifically Excel - experience using various financial formulas and data extraction - Must have exceptional level of attention to detail - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Must have excellent time management skills. New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
