The City of Portage is seeking a skilled, professional candidate for the position of IT Systems Administrator. This position provides primary support for the Public Safety Information Technology systems and interfaces with other city IT staff to maintain citywide technology systems. The position is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and software, managing network servers, and ensuring all systems are updated and running smoothly. These technology systems include (but are not limited to) incident reporting, records management (LERMS), building security, body cameras, desktop/in-car mobile devices, wireless/Wi-Fi communications, audio/video, tornado sirens, etc. This position serves as the Public Safety Department Local Agency Security Officer (LASO) and as the Department Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) ensuring compliance with Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) and Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) security policies. This role requires the incumbent to be on-call, after hours, on a rotational basis with other Information Technology team members.
A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field and a minimum of three years of experience with public safety information systems or a combination of education, training, and experience is preferred. Knowledge in the following areas is desired:
• Networking and data management technologies.
• Windows domain structure and understanding of Microsoft Windows environments.
• Administration and maintenance principles of network operating domains, relational databases and specialized software applications, networked PCs/printers, Wi-Fi access points, VOIP, and mobile devices.
• Life cycle management.
• Microsoft Environment: Active Directory, 365, Azure, Exchange.
• Virtualization software such as VMware.
• Local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and other basic systems.
Preferred Certifications
• Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) (must be able to obtain within first 6 months of employment)
• Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Security Awareness – Level 4 (must be able to obtain within first 6 months of employment)
• Local Agency Security Officer (LASO) (must be able to obtain within first 6 months of employment)
• Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC)
• CompTIA Security+
• CompTIA A+ Hardware and Software
Salary is commensurate with experience ($73,100 to $86,000 range) with an excellent benefits package. The position works onsite. Office hours are 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Friday, with rotating on-call hours to support after-hour needs. Post-offer conditions include an extensive background/driver’s license check and drug/alcohol screening.
