The Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority, located in Erie, Pennsylvania, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer. The Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority is located on the southeast shore of Lake Erie in a natural bay formed and sheltered by Presque Isle. The mission of the Port is to promote industrial, commercial, and recreational opportunities on Presque Isle Bay and adjacent waters.
Working on-site at their headquarters in Erie, Pennsylvania, the CFO serves as a strategic role in providing leadership and financial analysis in all financial matters. The CFO is responsible for planning, organizing and presenting all financial reports for board meetings and will work closely with the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director to ensure the organization has strong financial oversight. This role is responsible for developing accounting procedures and policies as well as overseeing all financial activity in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). To be successful in this role, the CFO must have in-depth knowledge of strategic accounting operations management, and experience with establishing long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of accounting for the organization, which includes managing, coaching, and training/developing department team members
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct, and evaluate the organization's fiscal function and performance
- Analyze the financial details of past and expected operations to identify development opportunities and area where improvement is needed and make recommendations
- Provide analysis and help develop revenue generating initiatives
- Manage and track financial progress of grants
- Develop and manage a portfolio investment strategy
- Manage all insurance-related processes including renewals, updates, additions of coverage, and resolving claims
- Analyze and revise existing accounting processes to streamline operations and develop and document any new processes and accounting policies as needed
- Conduct financial statement, budget, and long-term forecast interpretation and analysis, and make appropriate recommendations to Executive Director
- Coordinate the preparation of the annual operating budget
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government financial reporting requirements
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statues and make recommendations for necessary changes
Requirements
- BS in Accounting or related field
- Certified Public Accountant or MBA preferred
- 10 years experience in a Senior Financial Management role is preferred
- Broad knowledge and experience in corporate accounting and finance including GASB standards
- Proficient in Blackbaud Financial edge is preferred
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- High entrepreneurial skill is preferred
- Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast paced and ever-changing environment
- Displays strong innovation skills to assist with improving our current accounting system
- Detail oriented with the ability to present findings and recommendations at the highest level of the Organization
- Receptive to constructive criticism and feedback
- Strong Microsoft Office product experience, advanced experience with Excel preferred
- Prior audit-related experience preferred
- Must be a collaborative team player with the ability to partner with others internally and externally to advance the Port Authority
