MAJOR FUNCTIONS

Under the leadership and guidance of the Director of Logistics this position provides Information Technology (IT) assistance and support to the City of Panama City Team City. Duties include the installation and configuration of computer hardware, installation/maintenance/upgrading of software and apps, troubleshooting issues with individual computers, working with servers and some networking with special projects throughout the City’s IT system. Working knowledge of proper IT protocols and security is critical.

  • Installs, update and assist in managing new software and hardware components.
  • Offer technical support to City team members and troubleshoot computer and system problems.
  • Set up/Imaging of new systems while helping keep images up to date.
  • Regular evaluation of IT systems and components to ensure they meet demands.
  • Anticipate and report the cost of replacing or updating computers/peripherals.
  • Assist in the training of users of current and upcoming software/applications.
  • Educate staff in IT Best Practices in a customer service and team focused manner for daily operations and security.
  • Assist in project development and implementation.
  • Assist in systems management and trouble shooting.
  • Maintains tickets, including tracking of requests, resolving items and escalating as needed.
  • Ensures user-permissions and access-rights are properly maintained and audited periodically.
  • Assist with Active Directory management and Group Policy.
  • Assists in the maintenance of inventory of systems, software and equipment throughout the City.
  • Run cable for new systems, routers and other needs within the IT team.
  • Assist in City events and meetings with sound, lighting, recording with ability to learn and run meetings independently etc... often outside of regular business hours.
  • Assists with trouble shooting from a desktop perspective as well as system perspective to solve issues for users.
  • Maintains high level of security awareness as it relates to the physical and electronic access to systems. 
  • Performing other duties as required.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Ability and skill in the assembling and set up of computers, workstations and network devices.
  • Ability and skill in the installation and troubleshooting of various OS, Software and system imaging.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Server software.
  • Ability and skill in networking across multiple platforms.
  • Ability and skill in phone management including VOIP and POTS systems.
  • Basic firewall knowledge with emphasis on security.
  • Knowledge and strong understanding of IT best practices.
  • Knowledge of networking workstations for communications.
  • Ability to maintain flexible hours when emergencies or urgent needs occur.
  • Ability to operate and learn ticketing software and systems.
  • Skills to compose, create and edit correspondence, documentation and reports.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to exercise independent and team cohesive decisions in accordance with policies.
  • Possession of general office etiquette and ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative, team focused and efficient working relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills including email, telephonic, in person, and online options.
  • Desire and ability to work in an effective, cooperative and pleasant manner with internal and external customers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills inclusive of multi-tasking abilities.
  • Must be able to work independently on multiple tasks.
  • Ability to explain highly technical areas to non-IT team members in a positive and respectful manner. 
  • Possess and exemplify excellent interpersonal and communication skills to cooperate and interact with team members, other departments, leaders and the general public.  
  • Ability to work in a team environment, with pressure and demanding requirements sometimes required with little to no notice – approaching the task at hand with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Ability to obtain additional certifications as needed for utilization in IT Division.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' work experience in professional business environment, preferable in an IT capacity.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology preferred. 
  • CompTIA A+ certification, CompTIA Network+ certification, CompTIA Sec+ certification preferred or ability to obtain in a timely manner. 
  • Valid Driver’s License.  


A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
