The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:
1. Responsible for a wide variety of accounting tasks. Prepare, audit, balance, and analyze reports or other financial statements.
2. Receive and process documents representing a variety of financial transactions.
3. Review transactions for accuracy and against other accounting system criteria.
4. Maintain journals, ledgers and other complex financial records.
5. Develop standard and complex financial statements reflecting generally accepted accounting standards and practices.
6. Prepare and process quarterly and monthly excise tax and other returns.
7. Perform banking and treasury functions.
8. Interpret detailed agreements and rules and apply them to specific transactions.
9. Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
General
1. Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, accounting practices and theory.
2. Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of governmental accounting.
3. Knowledge of federal and state accounting and auditing rules and regulations.
4. Knowledge of policies and regulations affecting the assigned area of responsibility.
5. Ability to use financial management software and/or systems.
6. Proficiency in database management and generation of complex data spreadsheets.
7. Ability to understand and interpret financial and legal documents and federal, state and local regulations.
8. Ability to make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.
9. Ability to maintain sustained attention to detail and to work under the pressure of rigid deadlines.
10. Proficiency in preparing comprehensive financial reports and summaries.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – General Ledger
1. Ability to develop, modify and implement accounting systems, standards, procedures and financial controls.
2. Ability to prepare complex and detailed financial accounting reports, financial statements and schedules.
3. Ability to perform operational audits and review internal controls; recommend and advise management regarding need for improved accounting controls; and analyze impacts of accounting changes.
4. Skill to verify and review accounting transactions. Make appropriate corrections, entries and adjustments to ensure accuracy of reports.
5. Skill to monitor and control accounting activities in the recording of financial transactions, i.e., accounts receivables, accounts payables, collections and fixed assets.
6. Knowledge of State BARS accounting.
Experience/Education:
1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
2. Professional level experience in municipal or governmental accounting strongly preferred.
Special Requirements:
1. Valid Washington State Driver's License may be required.
