The department
The Seattle Department of Neighborhoods (DON) is responsible for strengthening Seattle by engaging all communities. Our purpose is to bring government closer to the residents of Seattle by engaging them in civic participation; empowering them to make positive contributions to their communities; and involving more of Seattle’s Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in civic discussion, processes, and opportunities.
The job
We are recruiting a Community Grants Manager. In this role, you will lead a high-impact community grants team responsible for two major granting programs which annually awards more than $5 million to community-based projects. You will manage a 6-person team involved in the development and implementation of the Neighborhood Matching Fund program and supervise the Manager of the Food Equity Fund (who oversees the work of two project managers).
Your Work Will Focus On Three Priority Areas
- Leading a team of nine staff with fiduciary oversight for over $5 million across the Neighborhood Matching Fund and the Food Equity Fund grant programs.
- Researching, analyzing, and developing creative approaches to make grants more accessible to the community, focusing on increasing inclusivity and deeper community engagement.
- Providing guidance and advice to DON leadership, staff, elected officials, advisory boards, and other City departments regarding all grant related policies, data, and emerging issues.

- Experience with grant administration databases – FLUXX, Webgrants, etc.
- Ability to facilitate meetings with internal and external partners.
- Customer service skills and focus on responding in a timely manner to community inquiries and concerns.
- Ability to successfully share information with various levels of government and outside agencies, including the Mayor’s Office, City Council, Executive Directors, and Board Members.
- Fiduciary approach to handling grants or other investments.
Qualifications
A successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to building and leading successful community-based or focused grant programs using an equity lens. This experience should be complemented by demonstrated ability in most of the following areas:
- People and project management
- Progressing projects and programs from vision to implementation
- Cross-cultural communication skills
- Navigating equity barriers experienced by BIPOC, immigrant and refugee communities, LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities.
- Using databases like WebGrants and Fluxx to track and manage grants and budgets.
- Working successfully within a large, matrixed organization.
- Working in a diverse, fast-paced, political environment.

Additional Information
This position is classified as a Manager 2, Exempt. The full pay range for this broadband position is $52.50 – $78.78. For internal equity our target salary is $65.50 - $67.00.
This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and management.
