The City of Watauga is in search of an experienced, community-focused leader to join our team. Watauga is “A Great Place to Live,” with a population of about 24,000 residents, located within the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. Residency in the City of Watauga, or within a 15-mile radius, is required at the time of hire. The City of Watauga is a home-rule city, and the City Manager reports directly to the Mayor and City Council.
Experience and Responsibilities
Watauga seeks a candidate with strong experience in successfully managing the various aspects of city operations. The City Manager is responsible for overseeing the annual budget, monitoring expenditures, and planning, administering, directing, and evaluating municipal goals, and policies. The City Manager also serves as Watauga’s Economic Development Director, overseeing the Watauga Economic Development Corporation. Additionally, this position involves serving on several boards and commissions that address various community topics throughout the year. The City Manager is responsible for the daily management of all city departments' overall operations.
The City of Watauga is looking for a professional City Manager with an excellent work ethic and a dedication to servant leadership. The ideal candidate will have the experience necessary to manage municipal government matters and operations of City Departments, projects, and programs. Organizational and community fit are key for this role. The incoming City Manager must possess excellent time management skills and be an expert communicator, skilled in delivering presentations to City Council, various boards and commissions, and engaging in public speaking with the Watauga community.
Education
A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field is required, along with ten (10) years of experience, including five (5) years of managerial experience in city municipal management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. ICMA or Certified Public Manager (CPM) credentialing is preferred. Residency in the City is required.
