To qualify for this position, laterals must be a Colorado resident and currently hold the position of Police Sergeant or higher, with at least five years of law enforcement to include various assignments throughout patrol, investigations, and administrative divisions.

Notification of Advancement:

Testing Schedule:
- Written Exam: The written exam will take place on Monday, October 14, 2024. The exam will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions (Various CRS and Timnath PD Policies) and one essay question. Candidates who successfully pass the written exam will be notified on October 14, 2024, and will be invited to participate in the oral boards.
- The oral boards will be conducted on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
PowerPoint Presentation:
- Candidates will be required to give a PowerPoint presentation about themselves, followed by questions from the panel.
- Scenario-Based Situations: Candidates will also participate in two additional oral boards; one will be a tactical scenario, and the other will be a supervisory/direct report scenario.

Job Expectations: A police sergeant will work under the general direction of a police chief/lieutenant and perform supervisory and/or specialized police work. The police sergeant exercises broad discretion in the management of an assigned unit, function or patrol shift including the supervision, coaching, and mentoring of team members within the Timnath Police Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
1. Works with an immediate supervisor and provides leadership by communicating agency goals and mission. Helps ensure alignment of appropriate work group activities toward those goals and mission
2. Patrols the Town of Timnath and provides direct supervision to police officers in the field; enforces federal, state and local felony and misdemeanor laws.
3. Provides direction to subordinates and makes administrative and technical decisions using independent judgment in a wide array of circumstances from routine tasks to emergency and extremely critical situations.
4. Maintains law enforcement weapons and equipment in functional and presentable condition.
5. Manages the performance level of assigned employees and team.
6. Assist with annual evaluation of employees.
7. Responsible for meeting individually with members of the work team to develop work plans, negotiate work goals, and understand individual talents and needs.
8. Provides input on community activities and perceived crime trends and creates and applies innovative policing strategies.
9. Participates and fosters problem-solving strategies in a partnership with the community, including such areas as participation and representing the agency at community meetings; identification of issues where problem-solving techniques is appropriate; developing, coordinating problem-solving projects; and representing police services in various forums.
10. Answers questions and provides information to the public; makes referrals to agencies or other staff who can provide further assistance.
11. Oversees and reviews work duties of officers, communicates orders to officers, identifies areas that need improvement or attention, makes recommendations for improvement, and performs other supervisory duties through the chain of command or at own discretion.
12. Responsible for the notification of appropriate staff members of all major incidents; responds to
the scene of major incidents to render assistance to officers and coordinate their activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid driver’s license.
2. Be 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen or legally eligible to work in the United States by application submission date.
3. No felony convictions.
4. No use of marijuana or illicit controlled substance use in last 36 months.
5. Must be able to pass post offer background screening consisting of: Medical/drug screening, job suitability, phycological evaluation, and polygraph.
Knowledge of:
6. Police procedures and practices, including proper arrest procedures.
7. Technology specific to law enforcement industry.
8. Procedures for detecting, collecting, and preserving evidence and fingerprints.
9. Accident investigation procedures.
10. The department’s vision, mission, and goals.
11. Thorough knowledge of the layout of Town roads and of the locations and characteristics of the various neighborhoods.
12. Ability to do word processing, use computer software to prepare graphics, operate software packages, develop computerized spreadsheets.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Five years of law enforcement to include various assignments throughout patrol, investigations, and administrative divisions.
2. Associates degree or college credits preferred.
EQUIPMENT USED:
The ability to properly operate the following equipment is necessary for this position:
- Telephone, personal computer and associated software, fax machine, scanner, copy machines, digital camera, video camera, books, magazines, and pamphlets.
- Use of law enforcement related equipment including, but not limited to patrol vehicle, handgun, rifle, shotgun, laser, oleo resin capsicum, two-way radio, asp and/or police baton, restraint devices, and other equipment related to police work.
