GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position is a Civil Service exempt employee. Under the supervision of the Leisure Services Director this employee will provide administrative leadership to customers and staff of the Recreation Facilities. They will maintain an efficient and smooth operation of the Recreation and Wellness Center and additional satellite sites as assigned. The employee will be responsible for the daily oversite of the Recreation and Wellness Center which includes supervision of building attendant staff, enforcing building policies, scheduling, building safety and security inspection, building and equipment maintenance and optimal supervision of cleaning services and/or staff. They will also assist when needed in the planning, developing, promoting, implementing and overseeing recreation programs/activities within the center and satellite sites designed to meet the needs of the community. Evening, weekend and on-call hours are required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Supervise Recreation facility staff and volunteers including training, scheduling, evaluating and monitoring.
Manage facility rentals. Including set up and tear down of activity spaces and working in coordination with the Leisure Services Programming Manager for Recreation programming needs within each facility.
Ensure a clean, safe facility with regular inspections and maintenance logs.
Interact with facility users, suppliers, community organizations, etc. to provide information and solve problems.
Perform regular building safety and security inspection, building and equipment maintenance and optimal supervision of cleaning services and/or staff.
Assist in plans, develops, organizes, implements, promotes and supervises a variety of community services, recreational programs and events within the facility. Duties include room use, facility set up & clean up, instructor contracts, fees, promotion, attendance, registration and evaluation.
Assist with planning and development of exhibits, shows, displays, festivals, concerts and other special events; works cooperatively with staff, volunteer organizations, other departments, outside agencies and boards to ensure event success.
Assist with membership and promotional activities for the facility.
Assists in the registration and administrative duties within the Leisure Services Department.
Participates in the development of standards, policies and procedures; makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies and procedures.
Actively seeks new programming for the facility and establishes schedules and methods for providing recreation services.
Provides input into the development of the budget, submits budget recommendations and maintains budgets for activities, programs and facilities that are under the employee’s supervision.
Prepares periodic reports; maintains files and records.
Attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the recreation field; incorporates new developments as appropriate into programs.
Serves as staff liaison on various Township Leisure Services or community related committees and subcommittees as assigned by superior.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Recreation Management, Facility Management, Commercial Recreation or similar program of study from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience necessary is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of (3-5) years of increasing work experience and responsibility with increasing professional responsibility in recreational program administration and/or facility experience. 3 years in which have been at a supervisors level and include budgeting and project development.
Specialized experience in recreation facility management/operation is preferred, not required.
Experience using or developing office procedures, methods and equipment including computers and applicable software applications, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, BSA, RecPro, and Promotional advertising software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment and at indoor and outdoor recreation facilities. Work includes travel to different locations and employee may be exposed to inclement weather conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery and uneven surfaces and may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends.
Physically, functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and recreational facility setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of computer keyboard; to operate cleaning equipment and machines; to travel to other recreation sites; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Possession of an appropriate, valid drivers license; chauffeurs licensed preferred.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid C.P.R/AED Certificate and Basic First Aid.
Possession of, or ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operators license.
The ability to obtain any additional certifications needed for the operation of the Recreation and Wellness Center.
