Position Overview:
The Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator will play a pivotal role in advancing our municipality's commitment to diversity and inclusion both internally to our organization and within the community. This role will work internally to ensure our policies and practices promote a diverse workforce, recommend improvements to enhance inclusion, and represent our interests on the Inclusive Sioux City Advisory Committee. Additionally, the Coordinator will collaborate with community partners to advance our goals of representing our diverse cultures within the City effectively.

Join us in making a meaningful impact on our city and its diverse community.Under general direction of the Human Resources Director and guidance of the City Manager, develops, implements, and monitors programs and initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion with City staff, Inclusive Sioux City Advisory Committee, and community leaders to foster increased diversity and an inclusive workplace culture; performs related work as required.
Program and Policy Implementation:- Researches and recommends strategies and programs to increase diversity in the City workforce.
- Coordinates and facilitates training and workshops.
- Evaluates programs, policies, and practices with City staff and key community partners to improve service delivery via inclusivity.
- Serves as staff representative to the Inclusive Sioux City Advisory Committee.
- Provides input to City departments, staff, and community partners during decision-making and other processes to adapt policies and services to meet the needs of various groups.
- Reviews and updates policies and procedures to reflect best practices in diversity and inclusion.
- Assists the Human Resources Department and City departments in recruitment, testing, interviews, and hiring of staff.
Community Engagement and Relationships:- Develops relationships and coordinates with cultural leaders from underrepresented groups to facilitate engagement of residents in identifying contributions, needs, and barriers affecting their communities.
- Identifies, builds, and maintains relationships with community partners by contributing to mutually beneficial projects, identifying opportunities to collaborate, and attending meetings and events.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with City Officials, relevant local agencies, fellow employees, and the general public.
- Serves as the point of contact and provides education for those new to this community and/or part of an underrepresented group who need access to City services and/or support.
- Builds and sustains relationships with underrepresented groups.
Data Analysis and Reporting:- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to diversity and inclusion such as the EEO 4 report, Triennial Review, and the accreditation process for other City departments.
- Collects and analyzes data related to diversity and inclusion metrics to identify areas for improvement.
- Prepares reports and presentations for the Inclusive Sioux City Advisory Committee, senior management and the City Council.
- Maintains accurate records and prepares reports related to program activities.
Advisory and Support:- Assists City departments and community partners in identifying barriers for underrepresented groups and developing solutions to overcome these obstacles.
- Assists City staff and community groups in the events such as annual Intercultural event.
- Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment by promoting open communication and collaboration.
- Performs or assists with other duties assigned by the Human Resources Director such as investigation of complaints, job description development/revision, etc.
- Manages work schedule to ensure the needs of the community and the City are met.
- Expected to temporarily perform duties outside of normal classification in the event of a declared emergency. In the event that an employee is excused from work other than being sick, they will be required to report to work in a state of declared emergency.

Work Environment: Seventy-five percent of the work is performed in a normal, inside environment with appropriate heating and cooling and is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards other than those normally associated with general public contact, dust or odors; occasional outdoor field conditions; occasional travel to various locations within the community.Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Political Science, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field;
or
Four (4) years of full-time work or volunteer experience in the field of diversity and/or inclusion which may include interaction with underrepresented groups and/or a diverse workforce or population;
or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities.
