Job Responsibilities
Oconee State Park has all of the perks of a relaxing mountain getaway. The Oconee State Park campground, Rustic, CCC-era cabins and a lake with a swimming hole, canoe rentals and fishing opportunities are only a sample of the park’s offerings.
Several wooded nature trails wind through the foothills region and serve as the southern trailhead for the Foothills Trail, South Carolina’s 77-mile wilderness hike on the Blue Ridge Escarpment.
Job Purpose And Duties
Manages specific park operations as directed by the Park Manager. In the absence of the Park Manager, assumes responsibility for the operation of the park.
- Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with Department policy and procedures i.e. reservations, procurement methods and requisitions and reports. Performs duties relative to accepting revenues, their collection, accountability and disposition.
- Assist with planning of long- and short-term maintenance projects. Directs and/or performs maintenance on grounds, buildings, and equipment. Provides required reports.
- Effectively supervises and trains full-time and part-time staff as directed by the Park Manager.
- Responsible for/or assists with the maintaining of park inventory of equipment, supplies, facilities, and retail items. Provides required reports.
- Responsible for specific park operations campground, cabins, etc., as directed by park manager.
- Ensures that park operations are operated in the most cost efficient manner possible. Assures that activities in specified areas managed and staff responsibilities are conducted in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Performs continued public relation activities, educational and recreational actives as required by park manager. Practice and promote teamwork within areas of importance. Performs and supervises implantation and execution of park rules and regulations, customer service expectations, and departmental policy within his/her authority and that of the park manager. Works to assure safety of park visitors and employees and strives for a harmonious work environment within his/ her authority.
- Employee will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety and emergency response.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Park Administration or related field with one (1) year experience in park administration and operation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements
- Position requires medium to heavy lifting, bending, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other materials used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Works with office equipment such as computers, calculators, etc.
- Ability to deal tactfully and cordially with the public and to communicate effectively. Working knowledge of most aspects of park operations and administration.
- Must possess a valid S. C. Driver's License.
