Position: Director of Security and Emergency Management
Summary
Responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, updating, overseeing, and directing a comprehensive safety and security program for Spartanburg County School District Four.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or higher degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
- Must be a commissioned police officer through the SC Criminal Justice Academy.
- Minimum of Five years’ experience in law enforcement, security or public safety.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Experience in administration and supervision preferred.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Assess the school district's current security operations and specific security needs; makes recommendations to improve the security within the school district and works with the Superintendent, School Board, and individual schools to implement recommendations.
- Support and uphold the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Spartanburg District Four schools.
- Oversee SRO program and effectively interact, communicate, and collaborate with all stakeholders.
- Serve as liaison with local, State, and Federal law enforcement agencies.
- Coordinate and act as a liaison for the School Resource Officers in conjunction with participating law enforcement agencies.
- Coordinate the district traffic patrol program.
- Investigate transportation issues on a district level that may involve, but are not limited to, bus accidents, threats, vandalism, theft, and trespass situations.
- Conduct Security Audits on individual schools to test school readiness.
- Provide consultation to support the development, promotion, and delivery of training on crisis response, crime/threat detection skills, and annual school reviews/updates to school crisis plans.
- Supervise school crisis planning, and coordinate district-wide crisis plan.
- Assist in the direction, planning, coordination, and implementation of district safety/security and emergency response programs.
- Responsible for annual update of District and School Emergency Procedure Manual.
- Plan and assign security for home sporting events for Woodruff Middle School and Woodruff High School.
- Assist principals and district administration with school security drills and issues, as needed.
- Assist with security planning for new facility construction.
- Respond to service calls, and determine appropriate course of action.
- Act as a first responder to fire and safety incidents.
- Assist in behavior threat assessment process.
- Manage and coordinate the placement and utilization of security devices, surveillance cameras, alarms, and other security measures for the school system, as appropriate.
- Investigate vandalism and theft that occurs on any District property.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Reunification Method.
- Responsible for monitoring campus facilities.
- Make recommendations to District Administration for the improvement of public safety and crime prevention.
- Maintain knowledge of current issues and best practices in law enforcement, public safety, and campus safety.
- Project a positive and professional image to the school district’s community.
- Review school and district safety/security plans and revise, as needed.
- Review security programs including evacuation plans at various district facilities, and make recommendations, as needed.
- Respond and direct district personnel during possible bomb threats, natural disasters, inclement weather, and other emergency situations.
- Coordinate and arrange physical security for large gatherings such as sporting events, theatre performances, graduations, etc.
- Monitor fire, tornado, earthquake, and other safety drills in the schools, and collect/submit appropriate and required relevant paperwork to local/state/federal agencies including the S.C. Department of Education.
- Coordinate with superiors to ensure accurate and timely flow of information.
- All other duties as assigned by the Director of Personnel and Student Services, Superintendent, or other district office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
