$5,000 sign-on bonus for all new hires
Certified full-time police officers having completed at least a six-month probationary period at the agency for which they trained are eligible to apply. Officers certified in the state of Illinois may waive the service length requirement.
Work involves protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances, and general police assignments including field patrol, preliminary criminal investigations, traffic enforcement and accident investigation. Duties involve an element of personal danger and require that Experienced (Lateral) Police Patrol Officers act without direct supervision and exercise independent judgment when facing emergencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be eligible to participate in the application process for Experienced (Lateral) Police Patrol Officer, applicants must:
1. Be a U.S. citizen between 21 and 35 years of age. Applicants 36 years of age or older with specialized police training or related work experience may be allowed one year of increased age for each year of actual service for a maximum of four years.
2. Have no felony convictions. A record of misdemeanor convictions may disqualify an applicant from taking examinations as set forth in 65 ILCS 5/10-1-7(c).
3. May not be prohibited from carrying a firearm and must possess or be eligible to receive a valid Illinois Firearms Owner's Identification (FOID) card.
4. Have earned a high school diploma or equivalent.
5. Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.
6. Must provide a complete work history on the application.
