This position is responsible for both supervising and performing street and utility maintenance work assignments. The position may be called upon to perform special jobs/projects and perform the responsibilities of the Street & Utility Superintendent in his absence. The work of this position requires extensive knowledge of heavy equipment and infrastructure.
The Street & Utility Crew Leader reports to and is supervised by the Superintendent of the Street & Utility Division. This is a full-time, supervisory, FLSA-exempt position. The primary focus of this position is to provide a direct service, and the work of the position is non-routine and performed outdoors. The position is performed with considerable independence and is responsible for scheduling his own work, taking initiatives in decision-making, and solving problems without direction. The position is responsible for evaluating employees and dealing with confidential matters. The employee is expected to expand his own level of training as needed and appropriate to effectively carry out the duties and tasks of the position. The position may be required to coordinate and delegate work with co-workers within its own department as well as other divisions and departments.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus some specialized training.
- 5 years of experience in utility maintenance; or any equivalent combination of previous and/ or on-the-job training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below.
- Ability to communicate with the general public in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Possession of a Class “A” CDL Driver’s License with air brakes and tanker endorsements, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months.
- The ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
- Pass all pre-employment tests and examinations.
- Ability to type and use computer.
- Experience with software including MS Office, Outlook, timekeeping, and financial software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- IEPA Class D Water Operators License and
- IEPA Sanitary Collection System Operator License
