DEFINITION
It is the responsibility of the building official to administrate, supervise, direct, enforce, interpret or perform the permitting and inspection of construction, alteration, repair, remodeling, or demolition of structures and the installation of building systems within the boundaries of City when permitting is required, to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code and any applicable local technical amendment to the Florida Building Code.
This job/class works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Not All-inclusive)
Ensures compliance with all applicable City policies and procedures, and other laws, regulations, codes and ordinances. Supervises Construction Services Division staff; instructs, assigns, reviews and plans work of others; allocates personnel, selects new employees, handles employee issues, and recommends employee transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge and salary increases. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations; provides training, advice and assistance as needed. Ensures subordinate inspectors and plans examiners maintain required certifications. Reviews site and construction plans for compliance with all applicable codes; issues building permits and certificates of occupancy. Monitors the progress of all activities to ensure that resources are efficiently used and projects stay on schedule. Prepares and manages annual operating and capital budgets for the Construction Services Division section of the department. Reviews and approves requisitions.
Additional Duties
Attends relevant Board, Committee meetings and seminars; responds to public inquiries, concerns and complaints regarding division programs and projects. Reviews and issues building permits; reviews site plans; conducts plan reviews in plans to be permitted. Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Certified Building Official license issued by the state of Florida.
