Qualifications
- College degree, preferred in industrial or facilities management; or civil, mechanical or architectural engineering and 5 years experience in a supervisory position
- Ability to read and interpret documents related to job responsibilities
- Ability to communicate effectively and accurately through routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees

Responsible To: Executive Director for Administration and Operations
Job Goal
To provide effective leadership in the planning and implementation of preventative and routine maintenance of facilities and grounds and in the improvement and construction of existing and new facilities.
Performance Responsibilities
- Examines all school facilities on a regular basis to determine needed maintenance.
- Plans for preventive and regular maintenance of buildings and grounds of the school district including prioritizing major maintenance projects and recommends action to the Executiver Director for Administration and Operations and Superintendent.
- Supervises the selection, hiring and training of appropriate maintenance personnel and assists the principals with the hiring and training of custodial staff.
- Assists the Executive Director for Administration and Operations in the budgeting process, proposing the equipment, supplies and personnel needs related to maintenance.
- Assists in analyzing facility needs and recommends facility utilization.
- Maintains a record of maintenance work performed, the materials used and cost and submits requisitions for needed materials.
- Assists in purchasing items as needed and makes recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.
- Evaluates all maintenance and assists the principals in evaluating custodial personnel, providing for training activities and skill development activities for custodial and maintenance staff as needed to satisfy state and local codes.
- Assists in determining the capital needs of the school district.
- Monitors the use of facilities of the school district.
- Serves as a member of the district emergency crisis team and supervises the opening and closing of emergency shelters.
- Inspects buildings and installations on a regular basis to determine that high standards of workmanship, cleanliness, safety and security are maintained.
- Reports vandalism and break-ins to the Superintendent on a daily basis and prepares a quarterly summary report.
- Keeps maintenance records for tool and equipment control.
- Maintains compliance with applicable codes, regulations and policies and conducts safety inspections, accident investigations, and training programs to create a safe environment.
- Handles informal quotations, competitive bidding and negotiations for maintenance contracts.
- Prepares specifications and submits cost estimates of proposed work activities.

- Serves as LEA Designee for AHERA Asbestos Management Plan.
- Supervises maintenance supervisors.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, staff and school community.
- Assists in planning for new construction and evaluates contractors that the district may employ.
- Visits all construction projects at frequent intervals to assure that plans, specifications, codes, and regulations are observed and followed.
- Supervises inspection of new building construction.
- Establishes appropriate maintenance, groundskeeping, security and custodial requirements for each school building and installation.
- Keeps informed of the latest trends, developments and products in the areas of maintenance, repair and upkeep, and encourages innovation and experimentation as appropriate.
- Coordinates the facilities sections of the Strategic Plan.
- Participates in staff development programs.
- Attends Board meetings and prepares reports as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
