SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under the direct supervision of the Parks and Recreation Manager, the Recreation Specialist is responsible for aiding with the development, planning, promoting, execution, and evaluation of programs and events for the Community Services Department and the City of Navasota. This customer and community-oriented position will coordinate with park staff, elected officials, and outside organizations to achieve goals and objectives set by the Department.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
1. Reports to: Parks and Recreation Manager.
2. Directs: Volunteers and Seasonal staff.
3. Other: Coordinates with community organizations and groups, and the general public.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Essential Duties*
· Responsible for aiding in planning, preparing, promoting and executing special events and programs for the Parks and Recreation Department;
· Create and implement leisure programs in the areas of youth and family, athletics, fitness, tennis, senior services, volunteers, outdoor recreation, and/or adaptive recreation; conduct research on community needs and national trends then develop programs based on research outcomes; perform planning, scheduling, and administrative functions for new programs, events, and leisure activities;
· Design, develop and deliver promotional program materials via social media, flyer and brochures;
· Collection of money from registration, pool, facility rentals and other fees;
· Working with Facilities Maintenance to ensure that parks, municipal pool, league fields, and the Navasota Center are in a neat and organized condition;
· Help identify trends and evaluate current programs to ensure community needs are met
· Assist in managing and coordinating facility rentals;
· Provide administrative support for the department by answering phones and providing information regarding activities and facilities; complete reservation and registration forms; maintain petty cash; schedule facility availability, maintenance and usage; collect fees; and manage contracts and agreements;
· Provide supervision to staff and the facility; manage and supervise personnel for the Navasota Center, municipal pool, camps, leisure programs, activities and events;
· Researches, coordinates and prepares grant proposals for various programs and projects;
· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation or a related field, or four years’ experience in a related setting (ex: physical education, recreational, youth, adult or senior activities).
Valid Class C Texas driver’s license and clean driving record.
