About the Company - The Finance Director directs the financial operations for the City of Canton. The City operates on an October 1 Fiscal Year and manages an all-funds budget of $80M annually. One of the fastest growing cities in Georgia, Canton is a diverse community that has a number of capital projects related to continued growth. The Finance Director reports to the Assistant City Manager in the creation of financial policies, overview of daily financial operations, and creation of the annual budget.
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains the city’s comprehensive operating and capital budgets.
- Provides annual recommendations and presentations for millage rate adoptions.
- Manages cash and capital deployment to ensure that all city financial obligations are met.
- Prepares and/or reviews financial reports to local, state, and federal government agencies.
- Works with other departments and external auditors to complete Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports.
- Supervises and monitors the work of department personnel (Accountant and Accounts Payable and Payroll Coordinator).
- Analyzes financial information and prepares reconciliations, valuations, forecasts, variance analysis, recommendations, and presentations for city elected officials and management team.
- Monitors general economic, business, and financial conditions and analyzes their impact on the city and its operations; stays abreast of legislative changes.
- Participates in policy development and administration; evaluates regulatory compliance requirements; drafts new or modified policies and procedures.
- Evaluates, monitors, and improves internal accounting controls to protect assets and provide accurate, reliable, and consistent, financial reports.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or similar course of study.
- CPA license preferred.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require seven to ten years of related experience.
- Ability to be bonded.

Pay range and compensation package - Compensation is based upon qualifications. The position is listed as Pay Grade 25 and is FLSA Exempt. The range for Pay Grade 25 starts at $112,705.59.
