The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Automotive Technician I in the Public Works Department. As part of a dedicated team, the Automotive Technician I will perform mechanical repair and maintenance of automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks, firefighting apparatus, and other related equipment. The Automotive Technician I will complete vehicle tune-ups and adjust and reline brakes.
In addition, the Automotive Technician I will diagnose and identify problems with Village motorized equipment and perform overhaul and repair work, including on chassis units, transmissions, clutches, axles, hydraulic systems, and air compressors. Candidates must be knowledgeable in the techniques used in the maintenance and repair of light and heavy-duty equipment, and in mechanical and electrical repair of heavy-duty trucks and construction equipment.
The salary range for this position is $86,006 - $116,111 with an anticipated hiring range of $86,006-$90,828, depending on qualifications and experience. This position includes a diverse and competitive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, paid vacation, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan. The normal work hours for this position are Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. for a total of 40 hours per week. The Automotive Technician I must be able to respond to emergency call outs.
Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma and four to six years of experience repairing and maintaining automotive and heavy equipment. A valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsements is preferred, or must have ability to obtain within one year of employment. Candidates should also have ASE Certification, including in suspension, steering, and brake certification for automotive and medium/heavy trucks, or have ability to obtain within one year of employment. In addition, the Automotive Technician I will be required to become certified by the Illinois Department of Transportation as a Safety Inspector to perform safety lane inspections for the Village within one year of employment.
