The Ventura County Library provides public library service to the cities of Fillmore, Ojai, Port Hueneme, and Ventura and the unincorporated areas. The agency mission is to be the community's information center, where people can connect and explore a universe of knowledge and ideas offering diverse viewpoints.
A Library Page works under the close supervision of a regular staff member while performing a variety of tasks in support of library personnel.
VETERAN'S POINTS: This is a trainee/entry level classification, and Veteran's Points may apply to eligible candidates.
EDUCATIONAL/BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Incumbentsmay be eligible for educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification. Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill.
Library Page is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
OPENING DATE: Wednesday, November 06, 2024
CLOSING DATE: Continuous and may close at any time; therefore, the schedule for the remainder of the process will depend upon when we receive a sufficient number of qualified applications to meet business needs.
REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS: Applications will be reviewed on a weekly basis beginning the week of November 12, 2024.
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Shelves books, retrieves library materials from storage for customers and returns them when they are finished; and keeps bookshelves in order.
- Assists with opening and closing the Library; opens and closes windows, doors and blinds, as needed; checks the restrooms; empties the interior and exterior materials in return bins; turns equipment on and off; and checks in and processes daily newspapers.
- Performs book processing activities.
- Keeps the library neat; and cleans applicable library equipment (computer monitors, keyboards, etc.).
- Assists customers, as needed, with the use of library equipment and basic technology.
- Assists library staff with setup, execution and takedown for special events.
- Assists with craft preparation for youth services events and activities.
- Retrieves materials requested by staff.
- Performs other related duties as required.
These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
No experience is required; however, applicants must possess manual dexterity, demonstrate maturity and the knowledge and abilities required for the position.
DESIRED: Applicants with previous library experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
May be required to work evenings and weekends.
Must have the ability to stoop, bend, lift, carry, and/or move books and media material weighing up to 25 lbs.
Candidates must be a minimum of 15 years of age.
KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the alphabet; sequence of decimal numbers; and current library services.
Ability to read and understand instructions in English; communicate effectively orally; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the general public.
Ability to learn the basic functionality of library equipment and technology; and provide basic technical support to customers.
Ability to stoop, bend, lift, carry and/or move books.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION - 100%: A job-related written examination will be conducted to evaluate and compare participating candidates' interpersonal skills, skill in alphabetical and numerical filing and technology skills essential for successful performance of the job. Applicants must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
ELIGIBLE LIST
Candidates successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future Regular, (including Temporary, Fixed-Term), Intermittent, and Extra-Help vacancies within Library Services.
There are currently two (2) Regular part-time vacancies. One vacancy is at the Ray D.
