The City of Greer is seeking a Director, Sports and Events Center in the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.
Responsibilities: Manages, directs, and evaluates department staff. Assumes management responsibility for all services and activities of the Sports and Events Center’s division. Oversees the daily operations of the Sports and Events Center division with the responsibility for the marketing, selling, and servicing of sports tourism events, adult and youth local league sports, and logistical support for tournaments and special events. Negotiates agreements with Event Rights Holders, including developing bid specifications and serving as point-of-contact throughout the event. Plans and manages the division budget; reviews and approves invoices for payment. Assists in creating and implementing new revenue-producing programs. Receives and reviews various records and reports including but not limited to vehicle maintenance reports, park maintenance reports, incident and accident reports, financial reports, budget reports, timecards, invoices, City Strategic Plan updates, PRT Master Plan updates, and performance appraisals. Prepares a variety of documents including but not limited to; work requests, requisitions, monthly reports, performance appraisals, budgets, comparative analyses; various other records, reports, memos, and correspondence. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other department personnel, subordinates, commission/board members, committee/task force members, civic / community organizations, school groups, other governmental agencies, contractors, consultants, volunteers, program participants, business leaders, news media and the general public. Assists with running the day-to-day operations of the Division. Conveys the City's vision and objectives to staff to create successful programs that meet objectives. Engages the public through the City's advisory committee structure and by attending public engagements. Travels on behalf of the City to conventions, seminars, and events; engages in panel discussions, relationship building, and obtaining certifications.
Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management, Business or related field. At least four (4) years’ progressive responsibilities/experience with a track record of successful leadership and strategic planning, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Strong financial acumen and budget management experience. Must have or be able to achieve state or national level credentials/certifications within one year from date of hire. Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driver history.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm; additional hours as needed
Salary: Minimum salary $92,866;Salary dependent on experience
