This position announcement will be used to fill a full-time, permanent, safety-sensitive Facilities Attendant vacancy in the Office of Central Services with Anne Arundel County Government.This is routine work in safeguarding and regulating the use of public property.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Work involves responsibility for preventing the misuse, damage, or theft of public property, and for preventing the use of public property by unauthorized persons. Work assignments are received orally or in writing. Work is performed under general supervision once the tasks are learned, and is reviewed by superiors through observation and results obtained. Work involves contact with county departments and the public.(Note: The duties and responsibilities enumerated in this class specification are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications and salary level for all positions in this class. Patrols county buildings and grounds; inspects for evidence of unauthorized entry or use, fire or fire threat, vandalism, and theft.
Attends restricted-use parking lots; determines eligibility of persons to use parking lots; directs drivers to parking locations; operates gas pumps.
Reports any emergency situation to a supervisor or a designated on-call person.
Directs and assists persons entering property for authorized purposes.
Connects, monitors, and disconnects automatic security systems; observes and adjusts various building equipment, including lights, air conditioning, heating units, and elevators; unlocks and locks internal doors.
Assists with crowd control for large county gatherings.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, learn assigned physical areas within a short time, and maintain simple records.
Ability to deal tactfully with the public and to effectively enforce laws and established rules.
Ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations.
Ability to physically perform the assigned work.Sufficient education to understand and follow oral and written instructions; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.Note - This is a safety sensitive position and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and alcohol testing.Preference will be given to those candidates with good communication skills, good customer service skills, and able to work in a team environment.NOTE: This position involves hours of 2:30 pm to 11:30 pm.
