Spartanburg County, SC is recruiting for a Transportation Engineer. The Transportation Engineer will provide direct supervision of staff and consultants who perform the engineering, design, and specifications for county projects. The position is responsible for the review of construction plans for completeness, accuracy and compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Additionally, the Transportation Engineer will prepare bid packages for county infrastructure improvement contracts, reviewing /evaluating bids, awarding contracts and overseeing projects. This position is under general supervision of the county’s Director of Public Works and is responsible for performing professional work associated with the prioritization, planning, budgeting, design, permitting and construction of improvements to the county’s roadway infrastructure network (over 1,730centerline miles of paved roadways, 156bridges, and associated stormwater network). The position also directly supervises a team of professional level staff members whose project/work examples generally include asphalt resurfacing, pavement preservation, roadway widening, intersection improvements, bridge replacements, stormwater drainage improvements, and right-of-way acquisition.

Spartanburg’s location at the crossroads of two major interstate highways, I-85 and I-26, put it at the top of the list for business and personal relocation.
The position requires the successful candidate to meet the following Qualifications:
• Must possess an unrestricted driver's license valid in the State of South Carolina.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months, registration as a Professional Engineer is required.
• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with seven (7) years or more of progressively responsible experience in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job is acceptable, but three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering or a related field is a minimum requirement.
• Supervisory experience is required, experience working and supervising employees in a municipal environment is preferred.
