What You'll Do:

Lead economic and real estate development initiatives: Oversee business attraction, retention, workforce development, and real estate projects to support the city's growth and strategic goals.
Build partnerships and collaborate with key stakeholders: Work closely with city departments, real estate professionals, government agencies, businesses and community organizations to stimulate economic and real estate development.
Analyze trends and implement strategic plans: Utilize date driven insights to identify opportunities and challenges within the local economy while creating and executing strategies aligned with the city's General Plan and other planning documents.
Champion community engagement and manage promotional efforts: Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, advocate for programs that benefit the community, and coordinate marketing programs for the city.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications is:

Bachelor degree or equivalent in business administration, public administration, economics, planning or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

AND

Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in coordinating economic development, redevelopment, community development activities or related field, preferably in the public sector to include some program or project management experience and three (3) years of lead or supervisory experience.

Special Requirements:

Valid Class C California driver’s license and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position. Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Employer Pull Notice Program.

Must be able to work flexible and extended hours to accommodate City needs.

California Government Code §3100 – 3109 requires that all public employees are to be declared disaster service workers and shall take and subscribe to the related oath or affirmation as required.

We are a full-service city comprised of nine departments, that include our own city staffed Fire and Police departments. ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE

Applicants must be specific and complete in describing qualifications for the position. Applicants possessing the most suitable qualifications will be invited to a written examination, performance examination, oral interview and/or other assessment instrument.

Note:

The City reserves the right to revise any portion of the examination process. Candidates will be notified of any changes before a related examination step.

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Economic Development Manager will be placed on an eligible list for this classification, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.

Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.

All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a background check and medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees appointed to safety sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.

All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

All appointees to the Economic Development Manager position will serve a six-month probationary period.
