This is a non-exempt, full-time, classified position with full benefits.
Inspector I: Range 21: Hiring range: $22.97 -$28.72 per hour. Full long-term range of position extends to $34.46 per hour.

Inspector II: Range 23; Hiring range: $25.33-$31.66 per hour. Full long-term range of position extends to $37.99 per hour.

Under general supervision of the Project Manager, performs technical skilled work in inspecting roads, sidewalk, curb, gutter and grading and drainage construction projects. Will also inspect projects that are overseen by Engineers of Record for sub-division/private development projects within the service area. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

This classification requires agility and balance to use ladders for accessing excavations, ability to negotiate uneven and steep terrain, must be able to be mobile in partially constructed foundations and other construction spaces, ability to enter and be mobile in confined spaces. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. May occasionally need to move an object weighing up to 75 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years of field experience in public works inspection and/or civil/municipal construction or two years of post-high school education in a related field is desired. Certifications for the inspection of road and utility construction are desired. Applicant must have knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance with minimal supervision. NICET, ACI, ATTI and OSHA certification preferred. Possession of a valid Arizona driver’s license is required.

This position is an underfill and has the ability to promote to Public Works Inspector II after two years of employment in the Public Works & Utility Inspector I position and meets or exceeds all criteria on the most recent annual evaluation.

Special Requirements

This position may require an employee to work overtime, nights holidays and weekends, depending on the needs of the projects.
