Maintains electrical equipment and control systems for City buildings and water production facilities. Performs limited electrical construction projects and modifications to existing electrical systems
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
Position Specific Summary
The Electrician position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation & Mobility installs, maintains and repairs traffic signals, street lighting, other electrical control devices, and related equipment in the shop and at field locations within the Smart Mobility Division.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Electrician Supervisor. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
Analyzes, troubleshoots, installs, programs, repairs, inspects and maintains routine or complex job assignments related to traffic signal equipment and associated electronic components. Reviews and interprets engineering plans, blueprints, work orders, and schematics to perform routine or complex repair and maintenance of traffic signal equipment. Drives to various worksite locations throughout the city as needed.
Installs, repairs, or replaces refractors, lamps, screws, bolts, washers, luminaires, photocells, and associated street light equipment. Troubleshoot electrical issues in street light equipment as well as in underground wires. Monitors streetlights to identify downed poles, inoperative lights, or other situations requiring resolution or to report problems to property entities. Drives to various worksite locations throughout the city as needed.
Operates, diagnoses, repairs, and maintains traffic signal and street light equipment. Replaces burnt out bulbs and photocells, responds to knockdowns, accidents and other situations or special events as needed.
Responds to emergency after-hour calls involving damaged traffic signals including streetlights, knockdowns, accidents and other urgent situations or special events as needed.
Enters data into the department’s Asset Management System, and Cartegraph, for inventory control and to track labor, material, and equipment hours for claims. Translates reports submitted through Risk Management regarding damage to City property into the system.
Conducts preventative maintenance on traffic signals and street lighting, checks all components of an intersection, ensures proper function, and checks bolts, pushbuttons, pedestrian heads, and traffic signals. Cleans and exercises street light breakers, ensure connections are tight, performs load checks, and repairs streetlight outages that belong to that load center.
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

Indoor and outdoor work with heavy exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous environment.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
6 months post high school
Work Experience:
Four (4) years of directly related experience
License:
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Full Hourly Range: $21.96 - 37.88 USD

Special Instructions:
The hands-on practical will test an applicant’s ability to safely and efficiently connect transformers, splice street lighting circuits and wire a ballast. The hands on assessment and interview will be held on the same date (date to be determined).
