Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Maintenance is responsible for overseeing and executing all phases of maintenance throughout the district. This role promotes a safe, productive, and supportive work environment while ensuring effective training and development of maintenance personnel. The Assistant Director will collaborate closely with the Director of Operations and Maintenance, district administration, and school staff to ensure facilities are well-maintained and operational.
Primary Responsibilities
- Communicate with the district administration, the Director of Operations and Maintenance, and school personnel regarding maintenance or repairs and follow-up when work is completed.
- Foster a collaborative and positive environment within the operations and maintenance team by facilitating daily or weekly check-in meetings.
- Supervise and manage the work of maintenance staff across all shifts, ensuring high standards of performance and safety.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations for all team members under your supervision, providing constructive feedback and guidance for improvement.
- Oversee and manage the execution of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry projects, ensuring compliance with district policies and safety standards.
- Ensure that all incidents, injuries, and accidents within the department are reported promptly, with necessary documentation submitted to the Director of Operations and Maintenance.
- Manage and oversee the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including scheduling and programming the time-of-day settings for all district buildings.
- Ensure the proper and cost-effective use of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Perform regular building inspections to ensure preventive maintenance tasks are being performed as scheduled.
- Establish priorities as to repairs and/or replacement of equipment.
- Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality standards and compliance with maintenance protocols.
- Coordinate the appropriate number of maintenance personnel to be assigned to various repair tasks.
- Ensure that all operations and maintenance staff are given opportunities for training to further develop and enhance their skill sets.
- Assist in the hiring and supervision of contractors to perform certain maintenance or repairs.
- Develop and maintain a clear, organized schedule for ongoing and upcoming operations and maintenance tasks across the district.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations and Maintenance to support the overall mission and operations of the district.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in maintenance, with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
- Expertise in related construction trades, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with team members, school personnel, and district administration.
- Proven ability to supervise, coordinate, and manage work schedules efficiently.
