New Hanover County is looking for an Information Technology Supervisor to join our Information Technology Department. The Information Technology Supervisor - Network Operations oversees the daily operations, strategic planning, and management of a complex county network infrastructure. This position is responsible for supervising a team of technical professionals managing Cisco, Meraki, and FortiGate hardware, VMware virtualized environments, storage, backup solutions, telecommunications, and Microsoft 365 administration. The role ensures optimal network performance, security, and availability to support critical county operations.
Responsibilities for this role include:- Supervise and mentor the Network Operations team, fostering professional development and ensuring efficient performance.
- Coordinate staff schedules, projects, and on-call rotations to ensure 24/7 operational readiness, and make hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Oversee configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Cisco, Meraki, and FortiGate hardware.
- Ensure the county’s network infrastructure operates at optimal performance and security standards by the administration and optimization of VMware environments, including virtual server creation and resource allocation.
- Oversee the management of storage and backup systems, ensuring data integrity and disaster recovery readiness.
- Serves as a member of the department's supervisory team, coordinates and collaborates with fellow supervisors and IT management to ensure service delivery outcomes and expectations are ert
- Aligns Operations teamwork efforts in accordance with other departmental projects and needs
- Oversees ongoing maintenance of the County’s telecommunications and computer systems which includes establishing operating parameters; setting service standards; coordinating the work order process; and developing plans for and implementing major projects.
- Collaborate with the IT Security team to enforce network and data security policies, including firewall management and intrusion detection systems.
- Coordinates the purchasing of systems and services which includes developing standards and specifications; preparing project budgets; evaluating vendor bids; and administering order processing.
- Formulates and implements telecommunication and computer policies.
- Develops and monitors procedures to ensure consistent quality customer service to include reviewing staff work and responding to concerns and complaints.
- Reviews resource usage and capacities, avoids shortages, and plans for change and growth.
- Monitors IT system status and ensure staff have all resources they need.
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

The hiring range for this position starts at $79,291.00- $107,043.00. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, budget, and market considerations.

Required Education and Experience:- Knowledge, skills, education, training, and experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the functions of the role and successfully perform the essential duties, with seven (7) years of progressive experience in network and server infrastructure management including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of supervisory principles; customer service techniques; budgetary principles; various computer operating systems; computer network principles; network and data security techniques; county government operations; computer programming languages; and computer system and services vendors.

Valid North Carolina Driver License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
