IRRIGATION AND LEAK TECHNICIAN
DEPARTMENT: WATER UTILITIES
Duties include inspecting and evaluating standard irrigation and sprinkler systems to ensure appropriate irrigation water use across the City of Irving and supporting all aspects of the water conservation program; analyzing water samples to test for leaks; monitoring and working with logger and listening devices / equipment to locate water distribution system breaches; programming irrigation systems at residential, commercial and industrial properties; educating the public about appropriate irrigation practices; patrolling throughout Irving to detect irrigation infractions; issuing warnings and citations; and collecting, downloading, storing and reviewing program data and generating related reports. Duties also include analyzing and evaluating evapotranspiration (ET) rates and weather data for the use of smart (ET) controllers; conducting monthly check-up of Irving weather stations for proper operation; attending and assisting with public events such as Arbor Day Festival, Earth Day and Frost Fest; and responding to citizen questions, concerns and complaints. Duties typically will require lifting up to 50 pounds frequently. A high school diploma or GED and two years of progressively responsible experience as a licensed irrigator required. Must have and maintain a current Texas Irrigation license and a valid Class C Texas driver’s license. Must also have, or be able to obtain within specified timeframe, a TCEQ Class C Water Distribution license.
