Duties: Directs the operation of the Parks and Recreation Department. Supervises and coordinates activity of key personnel in planning, maintaining and operating City's park system and recreational programs and events. Oversees development and promotion of City recreation program, including but not limited to athletics, arts and crafts, cultural arts, swimming, social recreation and games, and special activities. Oversees maintenance and development of parks encompassing over 1000 acres. Oversees operations of the Clean Streets Department and Community Service program. Provides for maintenance of grounds and facilities within parks including community centers, swimming pools, play areas, ballfields, gyms, concession stands and basketball and tennis courts. Introduces new program activities, equipment, and materials to staff. Interprets recreation service to public and participates in community meetings and organizational planning. Coordinates the exchange of facilities between city and local schools. Works in team with administrative or other professional personnel to ensure that recreation is well balanced, coordinated, and integrated with special needs. Directs Park development portion of the capital improvement plan. Oversees preparation and administration of operating, enterprise and capital budgets, and fundraising programs, partnerships, grants and other funding sources. Oversees, administers and assists with management of all Parks and Recreation grants under the City's Grant Policy. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation or related discipline preferred and five years related experience. Extensive experience in community recreation with at least two years in management. Experience in project management. Valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record.
