About Our Department
The Huntsville Municipal Court has jurisdiction and responsibility for motor vehicle and traffic violations, criminal misdemeanors, municipal ordinance violations, enforcement or regulation violations under the City Ordinances. The jurisdiction of the Huntsville Municipal Court extends to offenses committed within the city limits. The Municipal Court supervises Probation, Electronic Monitoring, Work Furlough, and Community Service Division
Court Clerk I Position Overview
This is routine court clerical work in Municipal Court. Work involves responsibilities that are confined to repetitive tasks which may be generally assigned without regard to the employee's understanding of procedures. Work is closely reviewed and monitored initially, however as experience is gained, more complex tasks are assigned. Work also involves giving assistance to the public, attorneys and judges both over the counter and by telephone. Assigns case numbers. Places case files, complaints, warrants, pleadings, orders and other court documents in numerical order and file them in respective dockets or case files.
Qualifications And Necessary Special Requirements
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency, including or supplemented by courses in typing and word processing and some clerical experience, or any combination of education, training and experience.
Certification to operate NCIC/ACJIC. Certification must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire and/or promotion date.
