Performs professional civil engineering field and office work in a municipal environment that actively improves the community in which the candidate will work.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise and participate in engineering design for municipal public works projects (water, sewer, streets, and/or drainage);
- Estimate construction costs for projects;
- Write construction specifications and assemble plans; answer questions during bid process; recommend awarding of contract;
- Coordinate projects with other utilities and city departments;
- Inspect and test materials used in construction; perform difficult construction inspection such as enforcing provisions of major contracts;
- Provide information to the public related to public works facilities;
- Provide assistance to developers, landowners, and real estate agencies on engineering issues related to subdivisions or property; review and make recommendations on preliminary plats to Planning and Zoning Commission;
- Supervise and train associate engineers and technicians;
- Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Completion of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field with an additional four years of responsible civil engineering experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Valid Current Driver's License Physical Exam Required Licensed Professional Engineer
Applicant may be eligible for Civil Engineering Associate with possession of Engineer in Training issued by the State of Texas. Applicant will acquire a Professional engineering License in approximately four years to fill the Civil Engineer vacancy.
Civil Engineer II:

Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of Civil Engineering related to water, sewer, street, and drainage design and construction.
Ability to:
- Plan, organize, and direct engineering projects;
- Perform professional engineering duties;
- Maintain effective working relationships with others by working with teams;
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing; Supervise the work of others.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently stand and walk during the shift;
- Occasionally climb stairs, ladders, and inclined surfaces; Frequently bend during the shift;
- Frequently kneel during the shift;
- Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds; and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
- Frequently push and pull objects;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
- Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting of standing;
- Place arms above, at, and below shoulder height;
- Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
